About the HPH
Breeding Program... At Howington Performance Horses, the ultimate goals are
to produce World Class All-Around Horses, Cow Horses, and Reining Horses. It is very important that all of their horses
have the soundness of mind and body not only to be competitive at the futurities and derbies but to go on and be competitive
as youth, non-pro, and open horses. They also strive for these horses to be competitive in multiple events.
All of these goals are strongly considered when selecting stallions and mares and when planning breeding programs. This
holds true on their own mares as well as those of their customers. The stallions at HPH are very well known for their
kind, willing and pleasant attitudes. These manners are an absolute must on their working grounds as well as the
show grounds. The stallions are all by proven sires and out of mares by proven sires and/or by proven producing mares.
It is also very important that these horses have strong female lines throughout their pedigree. For more information
on individual HPH stallions, please see the stallion pages. The mares at HPH are
the key to their breeding program. Some are home grown and some are by outside stallions. In either case, the
same emphasis is put on the mares' pedigree as the stallions. The Howingtons know the mares well and it is not uncommon
for them to know the 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd dams just as well. It is their goal to only breed mares that are proven
in the show arena and/or as proven producers. Remember that an investment requires carefull
planning, otherwise it is just another purchase and another mouth to feed. The bottom line is...these investments should
all make money - studs, mares, and foals. If you have any questions about the HPH breeding programs, if you want to
ask about a breeding or about any of the babies, please give Dawn or Rusty a call or send them an email. They are both
well versed in guiding you in the right breeding direction if you need assistance planning your own horse breeding or program.
They will gladly offer you a consultation to help you make sure that you are making the right decisions for you and your horse
family.
